That’s the ratio come May of next year between garlic to onions. I planted 20 garlic cloves over the weekend. Samarkand (Persian Star). So assuming all goes well in the garlic world, I should never have to buy garlic again. So that means that the 5 would obviously be 100. Yes, 100 onions. That’s about what we harvested this year. We are scraping by with 2 white onions and 4 or 5 red onions. I may end up planting extra so as to have enough to last through the winter…we’ll see. I love onions. Just can’t get enough of them. I also planted some bunching onions a few weeks back. We’ll see how those do in the next month or so.

Raising the second child on garlic and onions….great baby breath!!!
Onions are one of the best keepers. So plant way more than you think you will need. You can eat half of them green and the rest you let bulb out. I have found that the white onions (1015Y in particular) keep better than the red ones.
And if you get a good patch of garlic somewhere you won’t disturb them, you will never need to buy any again.
Yummmmmmmy! You really need a farm. And Misti remember your little onion snack at Granddads? you were hungry and of all things that’s what your Dad gave you to eat. Poor thing.
